Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta 2019

The longest journey begins with a single step …. sorry, I meant a step to the left …. no, scratch that, try a step to the right …. how about you just walk around in circles for a bit ….

The Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta is the second oldest regatta in Asia. It is unique in that it is made up of a collection of offshore passages, interspersed with inshore races. The event attracts a large variety of yachts, all of whom have to cope with unpredictable weather and fluid tactics during the nine-day sojourn along the west coast of Malaysia.

Auric’s Quest, a Nelson Marek 46, was to be our sled of choice for the 2019 edition. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Quest was sold at the eleventh hour and we needed to go looking for a new boat. Reverting to type, the crew decided that we wanted something fun and fast – back to the multihull fleet was the call. Up stepped Stu at Sailescapes with JAVA, a Stealth 11.8 Catamaran. Some might say she is a cruising boat, which is true in essence, but with a full suite of laminate sails, zeros and being super light …. we can live with that.
We will have seven Spartans onboard for the regatta (including one new recruit). Our racing will start in Penang on 20 November with some harbor races then proceed up to Langkawi (coastal leg) with harbor and around the islands races to follow there.
